Dressmaking

Grey Hat

Couture Millinery
​Day/Time: Monday 7:00-9:00
Duration:  10 weeks
Tutor: Sarah McGahon
Fee: €130

During this millinery course you will learn how to make Hat Blocks, and how to form your shape from the Hat Block you made. You will learn about Traditional and new Millinery Materials. One of the classes will be dedicated to Flower making. The second half of the course is all about finishing your Hat or Headpiece.

For the start of the course, you will need:
Brown Packaging tape and Paper Scissors.

Towards the Second half of the Course, you will need:

Sewing Items, things like Needles, Threads, Fabric Scissors, Ripper and Measuring Tape. Hand-sewing knowledge would be an advantage but not essential.

Sarah McGahon is an international Milliner, who's work has graced Stage and Screen and Royal Weddings.

Sewing Machine

Dressmaking (Beginners)
Day/Time: Tuesday 7:00-9:00pm
Duration: 10 weeks

Our Beginners Sewing course is designed for total beginners and for those who want to brush up on their skills.

Students will learn how to use their sewing machine safely and they will develop the skills needed to tackle simple projects in a creative and supportive atmosphere.

Each student needs to bring their own sewing machine and tools since these are not provided by the school.

List of materials needed for this course:

  • sewing machine scissors for fabric and for paper

  • pins

  • sewing machine and hand sewing needles

  • measuring tape

  • seam ripper

  • water-soluble markers

  • thread, 30+ cm ruler

  • pencil

  • eraser


Every project will require a type of fabric of certain length and probably other materials. The teacher will discuss this in class before projects.

Memory Bears and Cushions

Memory bears are a wonderful way to repurpose old clothing items, such as a favourite shirt or baby blanket, into a cuddly and sentimental keepsake. They can also be created from the clothing or belongings of a lost loved one and can provide comfort to those who are grieving. In this workshop, students will learn the art of creating these adorable bears from start to finish. We will teach you which fabrics work well for memory bears, as well as basic stitches and techniques to bring your bear to life. You'll also learn other reworking tips and tricks, for clothes or other memory items like cushions or pillows. Not only will you leave with a new skill and a cute new friend, but you'll also have a treasured item to cherish for years to come or gift to someone who needs it. Practical Sewing Delight & upcycling: Hold onto your hats – it's about to get hands-on! Brace yourselves for a 2 hr- rollercoaster of a workshop,  an interactive sewing extravaganza. Each student will rock their unique sustainable fashion accessory, from scrunchies to bags – oh, the choices! Sewing machines, some material, and creativity will flow – all you need is the enthusiasm to dive in.

Embroidery Work

Embroidery: Beginners
Day/Time: Monday 7:00-9:00

Format: In person

During this introduction to embroidery, you'll learn various stitches, choose fabrics and threads and learn how to transfer designs to cloth. Over the course of 10 weeks you'll Use embroidery to embellish clothes, bags and accessories as you work on your own projects.
