Pottery/Ceramics Course
Learn all about pottery and ceramics with this exciting new course delivered by award-winning ceramicist Chloe Dowds.

This ten week course is suitable for complete beginners as well as intermediate ceramicists who want to improve or hone their skills. During the course you will learn different techniques in working with clay such as handbuilding (slab and coil building), pottery (wheel-throwing) and mould making (with plaster). You will also learn about using texture and colour in decorating your work. Students will be encouraged and supported in generating creative ideas for projects and there will be plenty of scope for individual projects. Elements such as for shape and function will be discussed in order to create beautifully finished pieces. We will also cover firing techniques and the use of different clays to give different outcomes. Colouring/dying porcelain, which can give beautiful end results, will also be covered.
Humans have been using clay for thousands of years. It is an elemental, tactile and incredibly versatile material. Come and discover what the clay can bring to you and what you can bring to the clay!
All materials will be provided. Please bring an apron or wear old clothes.

About the Tutor
Chloë Dowds is a professional artist working mainlhy with porcelain from her studio in Co. Wicklow. She has exhibited internationally and has been invited to exhibit in Japan as part of the ICAF Sasama Ceramics Festival in November 2019. She has won many awards fr her work, including a prestigious €10,000 RDS Craft Bursary in 2018. Chloë believes that to be human means to be creative. She is a fully qualified Art Teacher and is passionate about working with both children and adults. Find out more about Chloë on her website. Some of her work is pictured below.
